Where Can I Serve?
Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of Calvary Wesleyan Church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. Calvary Wesleyan members are involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as making cookies for the local nursing home, to preparing the church bulletins.
Below are a few of the ways you can get involved to help make Calvary a strong church that impacts both the people who attend and those in our community we have yet to reach. Contact us if you are interested in volunteering for a ministry listed below or if you have an idea to help start something totally new.
Mission Outreach
Calvary is thrilled to be part of the spread of God’s kingdom around the world. We are active in supporting missionaries with our money and with our prayers. The three missionaries we support are located in the countries of Mongolia and Ecuador. Each year one or more people from our church travel to assist our missionaries in practical projects and evangelistic outreach.
We encourage all of our people to respond to God’s call for laborers, whether it means that they move to a foreign country or live and minister in our own community. Throughout the year there will be many opportunities to serve others both in the church and in the community, and we encourage everyone at Calvary to get involved by giving their time and talents to help impact lives.
Music
God-honoring worship is something we strive for. Many church members get involved in our music ministry. These volunteers are an important part of the ministry of Calvary, using their talents and gifts to glorify God. We are continually looking for musically talented people to help us improve the worship. If you play an instrument, sing or are passionate about drama then this is the ministry for you.
Ushers
The usher team fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.
Small Group Host and Facilitators
Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, Calvary Wesleyan desires to create a thriving small group ministry. Our goal is to have groups as small as 2 and as large as 12 that would meet in homes, coffee shops, diners or wherever else a group might like to meet. We are always looking for group hosts who would be willing to open up their home and/or group facilitators who can help people feel welcome, find and prepare a study, invite others to join the group and keep a conversation going.
Media & Technology
Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of Calvary Wesleyan. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. We are looking for volunteers to help oversee the media and technology ministries of the church. This includes overseeing the Sunday service audio/video, recording and uploading the sermons, website maintenance, creating and editing videos… the list goes on.
Calvary Kids
In order to give our children the best Bible teaching possible, Calvary holds a children’s church service during the pastor’s sermon. This special time gives kids more opportunity for interaction and learning in a context and manner that may be better suited to their age and learning styles. Our friendly children’s church volunteers have an endless stream of creativity–ranging from music, to games, to object lessons.
Nursery
If you love little ones, this is the place to be. A nursery volunteer is one of the most important ministries to be a part as it gives that volunteer a chance to love and teach other children, as well as allows the child’s family to give their complete attention to the time of worship and message.
Prayer
Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. Calvary is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. We are always looking for dedicated prayer warriors who would volunteer to pray during the service, pray during the week for the pastor and other requests and pray, gathered together, on the first Wednesday each month.
